Ilkka Paloniemi

Lighting designer (Madama Butterfly)

 
Ilkka Paloniemi has a Master’s degree in drama and education. He has been a lighting designer in all genres of the performing arts since the late 1980s and has stage designed, visualised and produced numerous projects. He has also lectured and taught at the universities in his field. His opera assignments have included the operas Aleksis Kivi and Faust for the Savonlinna Opera Festival, and the lighting designs for La fanciulla del West and Rigoletto for the Finnish National Opera and Gothenburg Opera. As lighting designer he has also guested in Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Cozenza for the opera Aleksis Kivi. Ilkka Paloniemi is at present head of Teakonia, the agency designing performance arenas at the Theatre Academy of Finland.
