Keith Warner to direct Tosca at next summer’s Savonlinna Opera Festival

Keith Warner (UK), one of the best-known opera directors in the world today, has been engaged to direct Puccini’s Tosca at the 2010 Savonlinna Opera Festival.

Previous directions by him have included Lohengrin at Bayreuth, The Ring in Tokyo and Pagliacci & Cavalleria rusticana at the Berlin State Opera. Savonlinna’s Tosca will not be his first, for he has earlier directed it at English National Opera, Portland Opera and elsewhere. His directions for Covent Garden in London include Wozzeck, which won the Olivier Prize for the best opera production in 2003, and the Ring cycle in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. In January 2010 Keith Warner will direct Thomas Adès’s The Tempest in Frankfurt. Among his other forthcoming projects are Faust in Dresden, Simon Boccanegra in Strasbourg and directions in Montepulciano and at the Bregenz Festival.
