Opera by You Activity Competition
1. The Organiser
The competition is organised by the Savonlinna Opera Festival Patrons’ Association (the Organiser).
2. Dates
The competition opens on November 5, 2010 and closes on May 30, 2012. The prize draw will be held on June 1, 2012.
3. Participation
Persons over the age of 21 may take part in the competition by registering as a member of the Opera by You community at http://www.operabyyou.com. Participation in the competition is gratuitous and there is no obligation to buy anything.
4. Procedure
Persons wishing to take part must first register as a member of the Opera by You community or give a valid email address. They may then submit shots and comments on the tasks and questions set by the Organiser. 1 points will be awarded for shots and 1 for comments and 1 for a vote. Shots and comments must total at least 30 characters in order to qualify for points. The Organiser will examine the content of shots and comments before awarding points. For example, meaningless character strings, mere symbols or numbers will not qualify for points. Nor will thumbing qualify for points. Participants can collect points one month at a time, and each calendar month the 20 participants with the most points will receive one ticket for the draw. The final draw will be held on June 1, 2012. The prizes are 5 visits to the Savonlinna Opera Festival in July 2012 on dates to be agreed.
5. Prizes and draw
The prizes are five visits to the Savonlinna Opera Festival in July 2012. Each prize will consist of return flights from the winner’s own country to Helsinki, Finland, the return journey Helsinki-Savonlinna-Helsinki by car, bus or train, accommodation for 2 nights in Savonlinna, a steamer cruise to Olavinlinna Castle and a ticket for the opera. The Savonlinna Opera Festival will make the travel arrangements (flights to and from Helsinki, the return journey Helsinki-Savonlinna-Helsinki by car, bus or train, accommodation, accommodation, cruise ticket and opera ticket). The prize does not include transport to the airport, meals, insurance or personal expenditure. The value of the prizes will vary between 500 and 1000 Euros, depending on the length of the flight. If the winner lives in Finland, the car, bus or train journey may be exchanged for a flight from, say, Helsinki to Savonlinna and back.
The winners will be told how to collect their prizes and suitable dates. The winner must agree to abide by these instructions and the Organiser will not in any way be responsible for the
consequences of failure to abide by them. Should the participant provide false or insufficient contact information, or should the Organiser be unable to deliver the prize notification or prize for a reason for which the Organiser is not responsible, the Organiser will not be obliged to deliver the prize or pay the winner compensation.
The prize cannot be transferred to a third party, nor can it be exchanged for some other commodity. The Organiser has the right to refuse to award the prize or to demand that a prize already awarded be returned in the event of fraudulence (such as automatic replies), ineligibility to take part in the competition or some other such circumstance.
6. Liability of the Organiser and partners
The Organiser will not be liable for any damage caused by participation in the competition, collecting or using the prize. The Organiser’s liability to the winner of the prize will never exceed the value of the prize.
The Organiser and competition partners will not be liable for any injury or damage caused by collecting or using the prize.
7. Tax
The winner of the prize will be responsible for any tax resultant from the prize.
8. Personal data and right to publish
Participants’ personal data will be handled in accordance with the Organiser’s registration document, these rules and conditions. In taking part in the competition, the participant entitles the Organiser to use the winner’s name, photo or statement in press releases on the competition without separate consent or payment.
9. Amendments to the rules
The Organiser retains the right to amend these rules. The Organiser also retains the right to amend the terms applying to the prizes should awarding them prove unreasonably difficult due to changing circumstances or should the monetary value of a prize exceed 1000 Euros.
10. Eligibility
Persons representing the Organiser and members of their family are not eligible to take part in the competition.
11. The Savonlinna Opera Festival Patrons’ Association retains the right to alter these rules.
