A hundred years – a hundred stars
An exhibition of photos in the Media Piazza of Sanoma House, Helsinki on April 3–15, 2012

Welcome to the opening of the exhibition at 13.00 on April 3, 2012

The photo exhibition A hundred years – a hundred stars is being organised jointly by the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the newspaper Itä-Savo and the Retretti Art Centre. The shining stars of the exhibition are soloists at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. The photos were taken by Timo Seppäläinen, photographer on the Itä-Savo newspaper, over a number of opera seasons from the year 2000 onwards.

Autographed photos were collected during the summers of 2009–2011. Some of the soloists feature in both costume and ‘civilian’ dress, side by side. There are also photos signed by President Tarja Halonen, Patron of the Festival, and composer Aulis Sallinen. The opportunity to get the artists to sign their photos was, according to Seppäläinen, what motivated his collection.

The the photo exhibition is one of the events being held in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
Appearing at the official opening will be the Festival’s founder, Aino Ackté, alias soprano Sirkka Lampimäki, with pianist Jari Hiekkapelto.
The event will be hosted by Olli Tuunanen and some of the stars in the photos, such as Taru Valjakka, Ritva Auvinen, Tuija Knihtilä and Petri Lindroos, will be present.
