3/8/2011 Online community voted: Hell and Heaven in community opera Free Will take place at political campaign office

Members of the Opera By You online community are currently creating the visual elements of the opera, which will premiere in summer 2012. Visualization begun in the beginning of this year with a task asking, where will Free Will opera’s Heaven and Hell scenes take place. As a result both of them will happen in political campaign office. Approximately half of the Savonlinna Opera Festival’s Opera By You project has been done.

Community members sent their own suggestions on the visual elements of Heaven and Hell and finally voted their favourites out of the suggested images and ideas. Political campaign office got chosen as the environment for both scenes. In Heaven’s colourful office heavenly virtues are promoted. Hell is all white and mirthless and the office represents the most cruel sides of the advertising and marketing world and its target is to spread the word of evil. Aim is to give both scenes their own colour palette, atmosphere and message, but still keep the never-ending battle of the ownership of souls in mind. Next visualizing task is to work on the third scene, which happens on Earth.

- We have received many creative ideas for visualizing from community members. Campaign office is not a common environment for an opera. It is great to see where the acts happening on Earth will be placed and what they will look like, tells Samuli Laine, who is in charge of visualizing the project.

The synopsis Free Will was chosen by the online community and originally created by Italian Graziano Gallo. At the moment libretto is being written and approximately half of it has been finished. A third of the composing has been done. The operatives leading the project encourage members to keep taking part in creating the opera.

- It is wonderful, that already hundreds of people have given their effort in Opera By You project. There is still plenty to do in all areas before the summer of 2012 and we would be happy to see new, eager friends of opera in the community. For once you don’t have to be a professional in music to participate in production of an international culture act, Project Manager Päivi Salmi sums up.

Wreckamovie’s Opera By You community has over 350 members and the Facebook group over 500 friends of opera from all over the world.

Chosen synopsis in short
